Hopi Ear Candles
(thermo-auricular therapy)
Hopi Ear Candles ear candling is an ancient practice named after the Hopi Indians, who used the candles during various rituals and ceremonies. The candle is a hollow tube made from a mixture of cotton and linen, with pure beeswax fused into the fabric, with honey extract and herbs. The candle is placed gently just inside the ear and the mild suction and movement of the flame creates a vibration of air in the ear candle, which gently massages the ear drum and auditory canal. This chimney-like effect draws any excess wax and impurities from the ear into the hollow tube of the candle. This can relieve pain by helping to regulate pressure within the ears, forehead and sinuses. Pressure relief and movement of blockages in the sinuses can result in easier breathing through the nose, which may have been blocked before the treatment.
It can also give long-term relief from tinnitus.
Conditions ear candles can help are:
- excess or compacted ear wax
- tinnitus (ringing in ears)
- sinusitis and rhinitis
- catarrh and congestion
- pain in the ears associated with flying or diving
- ear ache
- glue ear
